Rangoli patterns are a traditional Indian art form. These colourful designs are usually drawn on the path near the entrance to a house to welcome guests during Diwali, the Indian festival of lights. It is also seen as an invitation to Lakshmi, Goddess of Wealth to bless the household.
Rangoli is created from a series of geometric shapes and is usually made from paint, chalk, coloured powder, petals, rice or sand. The outer circle is usually circular to represent the endlessness of time.
This year, children from Schools across London are invited to participate in a Floor Rangoli which will be presented to the City Hall, Mayor of London's Office on Monday 22nd October.
Leena Pattni, an artist from Harrow is leading this exciting visual arts project which will bring together children of all ages, from different backgrounds to experiment with traditional indian arts.
