About the school

What is Sai School of Harrow?

Sai School of Harrow is a free Saturday school for children aged 4 to 14, held at Shaftesbury High School on Headstone Lane, Harrow HA3 6NP. Classes run every Saturday in term time from 10am to 12 noon, with optional extra classes until 1pm in GCSE Hinduism, 11+ maths, tabla, Vedas, maths and English. The school is a registered charity (1089487), founded in 1995 and run entirely by volunteers, so there are no fees.

Lessons follow Sathya Sai Education in Human Values and explore five values that every faith shares: truth, right conduct, peace, love and non-violence. Children learn through stories from many traditions, songs, drama, art and quiet sitting, and they put the values into practice through food and toy collections. Families of every faith, and none, are welcome. In 2026 the school won Best Values-Based Education Programme in Harrow at the SME News Greater London Enterprise Awards.

A Saturday at Sai School

What happens on a Saturday at Sai School?

  1. Arrive and sign in.
  2. Assembly for everyone: prayer, a story, quiet sitting and songs. Older pupils often lead it, and parents are welcome to watch.
  3. Classes in age groups, exploring the week's value through discussion, art, music and drama.
  4. Sharing and wrap-up, then home at 12. Extra classes run until 1pm.

Parents are welcome to join our bhajan and singing class while the children learn.

Is Sai School really free?

Yes. There are no fees. We are a registered charity (1089487), run by volunteers and funded by donations.

Is it only for Hindu children?

No. Our programme is built on five human values that every faith shares, and children hear stories and prayers from many traditions. Families of all faiths and none are welcome.

Who teaches the classes?

Experienced volunteer teachers. Everyone in a regular or unsupervised role has a DBS check.

Where do classes take place?

Shaftesbury High School, Headstone Lane, Harrow HA3 6NP. There is free parking on site, the H14 bus stops outside and Headstone Lane station is nearby. Directions.
